Peer Mediators

EDW's Peer Mediator Program ties into our school-wide anti-bullying and positive environment curriculum to help students use problem-solving skills both inside the classroom as well as on the playground, hallways, and other areas that are not tied to classroom situations.

Peer Mediators help other students, K-6, solve their problems, be active listeners, and build respect, trust and honesty within students.

Fifth and sixth grade students who are in the Peer Mediator Program apply for consideration at the beginning of the year, then go through an interview process with our co-directors, (Ms. Kluth and Mrs. Lind) to find how students will match-up with the characteristics of successful Peer Mediators.  Students then go through an intensive training to teach the students how to use the problem solving process, which is:

  1. Introduce themselves
  2. Set the Ground Rules
  3. Tell the story (listen to both sides tell their experience and ask follow-up questions)
  4. Brainstorm solutions
  5. Come to an agreement!
