Student Leadership Team

EDW's Student Leadership Team is a team consisting of 4th-6th grade students who are interested in building a strong tie to their community (school, neighborhood, city, world).  Students who are interested in the program complete an application at the beginning of the year describing their ideas for service within their community, and then a team of student leaders is selected to coordinate the Student Leadership Council, which become the project managers for one project that our team identifies as a goal for the year.

Student benefits from this program center on developing leadership skills, organization, marketing, and advertising (as directly tied to their individual projects).  Planning a project includes developing a team of students that will delegate the responsibilities stated above within the group. Students also create newsletter articles, speeches for our school intercom, and classroom visits to help communicate our messages and project goals.

Previous projects include regular activities like our Spirit Committee coordinating Spirit Days in our school. Supply drives and fundraisers are a yearly occurrence, ranging from collecting gently used books to give back to families in our school and community, fundraising to help purchase rice mills for struggling parents in West Africa, to collecting supplies for soldiers stationed in Iraq and supplies for displaced pets.

This year's projects have included:

  1. International Pen Pals
  2. Organizing the possibility of a school walk/run for Cancer Awareness
  3. Supply drive for displaced pets
  4. Fundraising for disadvantaged citizens (hard of hearing, etc)
  5. Spirit Committee's Spirit Days (monthly)
