Emmet D. Williams PTA

Welcome to the Emmet  D. Williams PTA! Our PTA has a strong tradition of enriching our children's  education. We provide many services throughout the school year and encourage  all parents to be involved and volunteer.

WHY BE INVOLVED?

Children  receive a strong, positive message that school is important each time they see  you volunteer.

WHEN ARE PTA MEETINGS HELD?

Generally meetings fall on the first Monday of each month from 6:30-8:00 p.m.  If school is not in session on the first Monday or if we are coming off an  extended school break, then we meet on the second Monday. A typical format  would be a business meeting from 6:30-7:00, followed by a speaker. FREE  childcare
is provided at every meeting.

HOW  IS THE PTA FUNDED?

  • Fall Food/Gift fundraiser
  • Fall Book Fair
  • Family Fun Night (school carnival)
  • Grants from Community Organizations
  • General Mills Boxtops/Kemps milkcaps
  • Green Sneakers fundraiser (EDW PTA gets paid $0.50/lb for used sneakers collected)
  • Donations from EDW families and friends

WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?

Each November and March, the EDW PTA allocates our discretionary funds.  Spending proposals can be submitted by staff, students and parents/guardians.  PTA evaluates the proposals and decides where to spend the money.  Most times, we are able to fund nearly all of the proposals.

Some examples of previous projects funded by discretionary spending and/or additional targeted fundraisers are:

  • North Computer lab
  • Several Smart Boards
  • Digital videocameras
  • iPads
  • Additional leveled reading materials
  • Puppet show assembly
We are currently in the initial phase of raising money to improve/replace some playground equipment.

YEARLY ONGOING PROJECTS

  • Education Enrichment:  Young Author/Audience/Artist and Scientist presentations
  • Classroom Support:  Teacher/Staff Room Funds, School Celebrations/Parties
  • School Spirit Events:  Open House, Staff Appreciation, Field Day supplies, Deep Portage assistance, Ice-cream Social, etc.
