School Patrols

At Central Park fifth and sixth grade students serve as our School Patrol officers. There are over 40 students who assist with bus duties as well as working as crossing patrols. Some of the jobs that the students have are kindergarten assistants, door holder, sign holder, sign collector and crossing guard. School patrol members are very responsible and hard-working students.

The primary job of a school patrol is to make sure that all students, under the patrols watchful eyes, practice safety rules. We have patrols that help out along bus routes and walking patrols that guard intersections close to Central Park Elementary.

All patrols must attend a workshop before school where their duties are defined, student safety being the major component of the session. During this meeting students are introduced to a member of the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department who quizzes them on safety issues and swears in the patrol members.

School patrols must wear their patrol vests, remind students of the safety rules, set a good example, and attend occasional short update meetings.

Throughout the school year the patrols participate in special activities to thank them for the work that they do.  For all their efforts, school patrols are given a certificate at the end of the school year. Most importantly, they also earn the respect and gratitude of our entire school population. Thank you, patrols, for a job well done.
